MY BOOKS TO YOU Chapter 5
CHAPTER 5
I reached home and texted her
first.
I can't believe she really agreed
to get me that book tomorrow. Usually, people don't like giving their books to
other people because they consider them "treasures". She is one of
that kind.
She never bends the spine. Flips
the pages like delicate pieces of sugar crates. Doesn't fold pages either.
Basically, she handles them like
books are princesses.
And I am getting a book from her. I
will keep it safe.
As soon as I reached my room, I
fell face-first into my bed, like a deflated pancake.
I am a bit embarrassed but also
happy. Like showering a candy rain on a toddler.
Because I actually texted her.
And she had actually replied.
I hear a sudden opening. My sister
barged into my room. As always, she doesn't knock. She sat down next to me and
poked my shoulder.
"What happened, Shakespeare??
Why are you melting like warm butter?"
I didn't want to tell her, but a
shy smile on my face was snitching on me.
I was caught.
" I.... texted her."
" WHAT!!! You texted
her?"
"Didn't I just say that
?" I roll my eyes.
"Show me your phone, I need to
read the chat." She snatches the phone from my hand like Mom when only one
item is free.
"It is just about a book.
NOTHING more."
She raises one eyebrow and asks me,
" Just wanted to read your copy.. I see.. You flirted with the girl you
met today. Come on, spill everything."
"No.. I did not flirt with her
... It is just that she maintains the books well, and I wanted to read a neat
copy. That's it."
"Excuses. Excuses," She
shakes her head.
I keep insisting, but she tells
me," I think you have a crush on this girl."
Then she releases the loudest gasp
in the whole world, like she found out E=mc2.
" That is why you wore that
beautiful button-down shirt that you wear only for special occasions. You definitely
like her. "
With that last punch in my stomach,
she leaves my room.
Maybe she is right. Maybe
tomorrow ...
Just tomorrow..
I might get to see her.
My phone buzzed. Her name lit up on the screen. And suddenly,
tomorrow felt too far away.
